Me, me, me (my favorite subject)

I was tagged a while ago (I’m horrible; I can’t remember who tagged me), so here goes. It’s probably best for me to just restrict my post to a list, because I’m feeling really snarky and crabby this week.

Eight Random Things About Me
1. I absolutely adore 80s music, even though I went to high school during the 90s. I can be in a bad mood and get in my car and hear “Summer of ’69,” and I immediately cheer up.
2. I have a bit of a social anxiety disorder, though I don’t take medication or anything. I am constantly worried that a) everyone else has more friends, and definitely more close friends, than I do; b) I have said the wrong thing in a conversation with a friend/acquaintance; c) I’m the person at the party that you didn’t want to invite, but felt obliged to. I also typically get nervous before dinner parties/game nights/outings with anyone but my very closest friends. We usually have a great time, but I’m always nervous that we won’t, or that I’ll say the wrong thing. (I’m really not as much of a basket case as I sound like; I’m just being really, really honest here. And yes, I know that most of the time, it’s all in my head. I guess it all comes from having an extremely difficult junior high experience, when it WASN’T all in my head.)
3. Because of religious beliefs, M and I didn’t have sex or live together before we got married. Neither of us regrets it for a second.
4. My brother (who is four years older than me) and I went to see Police Academy 4 together twice in the movie theater when he was in early high school and I was in 5th or 6th grade. Yes, we enjoyed each other’s company that much, apparently, and no, we didn’t have anything else better to do.
5. During the seven years since I graduated from college, I have managed to find myself jobs in which I don’t have to work very hard, but in which my managers seem to think I’m the best thing since sliced bread.
6. I was very involved in theater from age 7 until sophomore year in college. I rarely got a really good part in plays, but I hold firm to the belief that that was because I was unfairly passed over. I refuse to entertain the thought that I might not have been very good…
7. My mother is my best friend. She and I drive each other crazy sometimes, but she’s the first one I want to call when I’m bored, or sad, or puzzled, or just in need of a listening ear.
8. As a (former) journalist, I have interviewed Wayne Brady of “Whose Line..” fame (kind of standoffish and jaded), Paula Poundstone (totally down-to-earth and fun), and several other D-list celebrities. I hate it. I prefer interviewing real people who are surprised anyone wants to talk to them.

Me too with #2. Whenever we leave a party, D or I always say, "Do you think that went okay?"

I love Paula Poundstone! I listen a lot to Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me.

I think we're about the same age (because college graduation was 8 years ago this spring for me) and I adore 80s music too! I think I have a touch of social anxiety disorder as well.

ditto #1 and #2. Although I'm the right age for the 80's music.

Nothing makes people (at least the people I like) smile more than 80s music. We have a great 80s cover band in my town, and we have the best time listening and dancing to them!

I ditto #2 as well. Isn't it funny that all of the comments so far say that??

80s music is just too fun (although I was in middle school and part of high school in the 80s...) In fact, I just watched Dirty Dancing this evening and had a major late-80s flashback... ahh....good times... :-)
