As many of you know, the 48 hours between the first and second betas is absolute hell. I’ve had every possible scenario running through my mind. Nurse Wonderful at Dr. Hot’s office (can you tell I love my RE clinic?) promised she would check the fax machine every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. on so I wouldn’t have to wait. At 11:15, I finally gave in and called the lab (I work in the same hospital as the lab). The technologist wasn’t sure it had been faxed in yet, so she did the honors. Nurse Wonderful called me 10 minutes later. She was very, very happy with the results—more than double my first beta.
Wow. So we’ve passed the first hurdle. The way I look at from this point is, even if I miscarry, we still got pregnant. Which means we should (theoretically) be able to do it again, even with my crappy cervical mucous.
Oh, and M called me with some appropriately timed news. His Honda Civic (180,000 miles), which didn’t pass the emissions test a while ago, will need at least $1,200 in Band-Aid repairs. Looks like we’re going car-hunting. I’m cautiously optimistic that we will need a bigger car…although I feel like I’ll jinx myself if I say that. I just know the minute we plunk down a ton of money for a gas-guzzler, I’ll lose the baby. I know, I know—that sounds awful, but that’s how my pessimistic mind works.

YAY on the second beta!! Try and think positively - there's no reason that you know of that this won't be a sticky baby. And you're going to have a family eventually anyway, so you might as well get the family car. Enjoy this time as much as possible (I know, easy to say, especially since I was convinced I was going to miscarry almost the entire first trimester), but seriously, this is wonderful news. I am SO happy for you.
Excellent news!! Your numbers are great!! Now hopefully Dr. Hot will do an early (6-week) ultrasound for you in a week or two!!! Can't wait to hear more good news!!!!
Lisa
excellent news! congratulations!
Great news on your second beta! I agree with Carrie - get the family car. Chances are you'll need it very soon, and no matter what you'll need it eventually!
Congrats!
Yay, Yay, Yay!!
(Do you realize that we are like one day apart? Amazing!)
Ok, Ann: car repairs will not kill the baby (repeat after me)... but from one pessimistic chick to another- I totally can relate to those types of feelings (having them every second minute right over here!)
That's great news!
Wahoo!
Still holding off on the bigger car purchase here, too. It's embarrassing. First we were going to wait for a heartbeat. Then the first trimester. Now we're waiting until 28 weeks, when the baby has a reasonable chance at surviving a preterm delivery. In the meantime my husband's car has become a rattling mess.
The paranoia never ends.
Great numbers! I have my fingers crossed.
I got a new car over a year ago in the hopes of our soon to come baby....well, 1 1/2 years later I drive a "mom" SUV the Lexus 330. Dont get me wrong I love the car it's just too big for just me :(
Yay! That's a good beta...
Fantastic, fantastic,fantastic. About the beta.
I'm sorry about the car.
Woohoo, that's awesome! Glad to hear so far so good:-)
Congrats on the fantastic second beta! I will continue to hope for the best for you. What is the next step? Ultrasound? When? I'm so excited for you!
YAY! Great second beta! So excited for you!
Congrats! How on earth did I miss this!
